Journey of Life…Revolution student – El Mariachi

I, as many others had a dream growing up, no I dint want to be a police office or a fireman, I wanted to be something else, I wanted to wrestle! I remember watching a wrestling as a kid and being enamored with it, I would watch it every week and just sit there and imagine myself walking down that ramp. As I grew up I still had that idea in my head, I wanted to be a wrestler. So I started looking up wrestling schools around the area and I found one that claimed to be the best in the U.S. I sent an e-mail and soon enough I heard from the owner and thus began my journey, the journey to become a wrestler.

I met in Hayward with the owner of the company and got a tour of the facility and signed immediately. I began my training in January ’09, a year after I signed. At that time I had a job that consisted of me working evenings. After talking to my boss I worked out a deal and he allowed me to work 2 hours and leave to Hayward, come back and work till 4am. It was a hassle but I decided to do it, this was my dream. So I began my training. I showed up expecting to Hayward and training was intense, but quickly slowed down. But in my class I met fellow classmates who ring announced for Pro Wrestling Revolution. She was set to debut a valet and asked me if I was interested in ring announcing and taking her spot. Without hesitation I took it, not knowing what to expect, something that would change my direction towards something better.

I drove 5 hours down to Santa Maria for a Revolution event where I was suppose to debut as the new announcer. When I showed up I met Pro Wrestling Revolution owner and promoter, Gabriel Ramirez for the very first time. Finally a Latino, I thought to myself. After a tryout Gabe decided against me being the full time announcer, so I was set to the special guest “Spanish Announcer” for the evening. After returning to Hayward and resuming my training I heard a lot of people’s displeasures in me working for Revolution. I didn’t let it bother me and resumed my training. The training there was great, and I learned a lot and forever will be grateful to all my trainers there. On July of 2010, I seen training had slowed down even more, not really training much, and seen the displeasure for me and my relationship for Revolution was still hurting me on advancing. Gabe would call me weekly and see how my training was going; but on his last call, I decided to join the Revolution and visit the Pro Wrestling Revolution Training Facility. He had acquired former WWE Developmental Kafu, and Derek Sanders as trainers, so I decided to enroll full time with the Revolution! And hence began yet another saga in my journey.

After training in both the lucha libre classes and the American style classes at Pro Wrestling Revolution Facility I felt like I was at home. The brotherhood and atmosphere was so much different. I felt welcomed with open arms by both of my trainers, students and staff. This is what I needed this is what I missing. After almost giving up my dream up in Hayward, I found my fire being lit up once again in San Jose. I learned so much in the short 5 months under Kafu and Derek, than I did in my 1 and a half years up north. As an announcer the feeling while I wait behind the curtain as my music started is amazing. Like no other feeling I’ve ever felt before. And now that I’m set to debut, I’m set to live my dream; as I walkout in San Francisco, in front of the crown of John O’Connell High School, the feeling is in me again. The butterflies are in my stomach, and the newest saga begins….. The saga of “El Mariachi.” Come February 5th, 2011 my journey will just be BEGINNING! Three Years in the making!

It’s always been really hard for me to open up to people, now here I feel I’m opening up to the entire world…

But here we go! I guess first thing I would really like to say is that it has taken me 6 years to have my first professional wrestling match. This was something that I use to be really embarrassed and ashamed about but as time goes on, it’s becoming something I am becoming very proud of. I guess you can look at it two ways like “wow took him 6 years? How sad, what a “loser” when it takes some people 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months to experience that once in a lifetime feeling of your first match and walking out in front of a crowd and living out your dream or you can look it like “damn” 6 years and he never gave up he kept pushing and pushing now that’s legit that’s real that’s inspiring. I just see it as after all these years I kept coming back after quitting many times, I knew this was something special if it had this death grip on me and can become something serious in my life and it has.

Through out all my years of navigating and wondering through many different trainers and places and people I have some very good and some very bad experiences. Through out those years I was beaten up a lot, lied to, used, abused, taken advantage of, and lost a lot of money but one of the hardest things I think was dealing and training in a ring that had fleas. Coming home with fleas from training was something else I’d ask my self why am I doing this? But now that I look at it, it’s like damn that’s how bad I really wanted this to put up with that. There’s one thing I want to get off my chest, is the way I left the last place I was at, if they by any chance are reading this they know who they are, I’m still mad at my self for handing it the way I did, that’s not the way I would do things, I sit there and ask my self why I handled it the way I did and I am still lost in answers. All I would  like to say to everyone there is, Thank You for everything the good and the bad you guys gave me a solid foundation to build on and to the main trainer0, Thank You, you treated me really well my second time there, I felt you really looked out and cared for me and my condition at the time, nothing but respect for you. Gracias Vato!

Meeting Gabe and his family and Mi Profe was an unreal refreshing and truly saving experience. They showed me a size of wrestling I really have never seen before and that be the good side of it after all these years of wondering lost I finally feel I am home. I am no where near perfect and I like to thank them for putting up with my flaws, and giving me the feeling of Family and support that I have never ever felt in wrestling before. Can’t thank you enough Gabe you truly saved my passion, my soul and me for all this, Thank You.

Mi Profe, gracias, thank you for having patience in me, believing and having faith in me and putting up with my scarred mentality and helping me push and reach and do things I honestly never ever though I would be doing in my life not only have you become Mi Profe in the ring but also outside of it, You given me some great advice in my tough times and been there to help me, All my Respect for you Muchas Muchas Gracias Mi Profe.

To end this i just want to say thank you for Watsonville that truly was living the dream, to my Parents and two friends that come out to support me thank you i appreciate it so much. This has been my journey, I’m just a man with all of my dreams, even through the times it feels wrong, ill continue to follow my heart, until my candle of life is blown away…this is Mi Revolucion!!!

I knew the moment I talked to owner of Pro Wrestling Revolution, Gabriel Ramirez, that I had stumbled across something really cool. He invited me down to their pro training class and I soon realized that they offer the best training and also the lowest pricing to match it. For a few years, I have been looking for a pro wrestling school close by to me that allows me to work around my work schedule. I can’t ask for anymore! I regret not knowing Pro Wrestling Revolution existed much earlier.

We are really fortunate to have experienced trainers in Kafu and Derek Sanders, who make sure we are right on top of basic fundamentals, bumps and holds. If you’re not in good cardio shape, you’re going to be! The training is really thorough and if you’re not doing or trying your best, you’re likely going to be body slammed into the mat by Kafu.

Having been at and working (as security) the last Pro Wrestling Revolution wrestling show on July 31, where we had almost 1000 attend, I realized that I had made one of the biggest discoveries of my life!

As I’m standing in the back second before getting my name called out and my music played and I make my debut in my home town,  I get flashbacks from the 1st day of training. Remember walking into a warehouse and thinking to myself “what did I get myself into?” I took a chance and I believe in my trainers, and in Gabe.  So I take a few steps closer and I start to do some push-ups with a big smile on my face, knowing that I’m just second away from realizing my dream. As I open the drapes and see all the fans I get the chills, I start to remember as I kid how I looked up to the luchadores as my super heroes and now after all the sacrifice and time I have become that super hero.

I take a few steps to the left and start slapping the fans hands something comes in me and I start to dance.  I dance for a few seconds and continue my path to the ring.  As I’m walking I spot my family, I walk to them. Having another mask on my waist, I give my little brother a hug and then I put on him my original mask.  As I finally get into the ring that’s where the whole magic happens and I can’t say I truly remember it something came about me and just took over.
